Well, it appears this weekend may be moving weekend, and in more ways than one. The Penny family is finally uprooting in favor of its more permanent domicile, complete with all the joys of home ownership. And it appears another Matt (though one that is decidely more wealthy) will also be relocating.
I know 100% of our readers will be thrilled with the move (though losing Brett Wallace has got to hurt), but I'm here to throw a little water on the fire. First, let's see how Holliday does when he doesn't get to play half his games at Mile High Coors Field. Oh, wait a minute, we have seen what he does. He is slugging .454, nearly 90 points off his career of .541. He has a grand total of 11 home runs. And how is he going to like playing in LaRussa's constant tinkered-with lineup?
Oh who am I kidding!?! The prospect of a Pujols-Holliday lineup scares the bejeezus out of me, since it looks like the Dodgers' road to the World Series is going to have to pass through St. Louis. Damn it! Now the Boys in Blue had better get Doc, if only so we can screw the announcers and have a Halladay v. Holliday matchup.
I guess it took a three game series sweep by the DisAstros for the Cardinals GM to decide the team may need some help. I for one am very excited about the Cards soon-to-be lineup consisting of Rasmus-Pujols-Holiday-Ludwick-DeRosa-Molina batting 2-3-4-5-6-7. That finally has some potential to be deadly. You go and throw in Ankiel in the mix, while he has not been hitting well, he nevertheless carries a little pop, and it should make for a fun August, September, and hopefully October.
ReplyDeleteYou are right that there will be a lot of tinkering going on as I can see Holiday getting some action in the two-spot as well--LaRussa likes to put sluggers in front of Pujols because they will get a lot of good pitches; Larry Walker used to rake in the hits in that spot, at least when he was healthy. I think a Holiday-Pujols-Ludwick-DeRosa combo at 2-3-4-5 will be pretty deadly as well. Also, you have to remember that with the pitcher batting eighth there will be two fast guys getting on base in front of these four guys.
Now if only the Cardinals aquire Halladay--at least the announcers will not have to worry about the Halladay v. Holiday matchup.
Nice articles.
