Worlds Colliding

Ripping off other blogs is not a good way for SLAE to make a name for itself, but when the world of Longhorns and the world of Dodger blue collide, a blog post must be created. It is mandatory. See the following:

Kyle Russell is now just toying with the Midwest League. Over the past week he's moved to the top of the leaderboard in slug(.679), OPS(1.087), and wOBA (.451). Six home runs so far in May suggest he's ready for the next step up. He was already old for this league so let us see what he can do at the next level.

  1. Are you perusing the box scores of the Great Lakes Loons again? I think Laker Girl should be made aware of this situation.

Do you think Kyle can be available for the big league club within the next 50 games?

  2. Sadly, I think Laker Girl is well aware of my particular....sickness. the question really is how long she is willing to put up with it! As we approach our five year anniversary at the end of the month, I am torn between: its been 5 years so I am (a) in the clear, or (b) must be reaching the end of my rope.

It is amazing to me how big the jump is from the Minors to the Majors. Are there any other sports where the difference between the lower levels and the upper is so high? Kids go from high school straight to the pros in basketball, college stars become NFL stars seemingly overnight, but in baseball even the most talented players (almost without exception) need to spend time in the Minors before they can excel at the upper levels. It is really a fascinating phenomenon. Why do you think that is?
